Robert L. Breternitz Jr. was born on October 17, 1930 in Marietta, Ohio to
Robert L. Breternitz Sr. and Berlynn Hildenbrandt Breternitz. He was an only child.
He passed away peacefully in his home in Las Vegas, NV on January 31, 2020 at the age of
89 surrounded by his family who took such great care of him these past few years.

Bob grew up in Marietta, Ohio and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1948. He graduated from the University of Illinois as a Flight Engineer in 1952. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Springfield, Massachusetts. He proudly served our country for several years and received these Military Medals: Air Crewmembers Badge, Good Conduct Medal with Two Bronze Loops, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal with One Cluster, Purple Heart and Korean Service Medal. He went on to become a Flight Engineer and worked for several airlines including Pan AM, Capitol Airways, American Trans Air and Air Afrique. When he retired from flying he was a substitute teacher at a local high school.

He had a true passion for airplanes and spent most of his life flying airplanes. When he wasn't flying he was building model airplanes or discussing airplanes. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to big band music, cooking, crossword puzzles, riding motor cycles, collecting guns and target shooting, telling stories & jokes.

While stationed in Springfield, Massachusetts, he met Marie F. Meunier who he married and they had three children: Brenda Breternitz Rex who passed on in 2016, Robert Breternitz III married to Lois Breternitz, and Cynthia Marie Breternitz Kelly married to Daniel Kelly, all of which reside in Delaware. Later in life he met Christine Moran at Capitol Airlways, who he married and they had three children: Leland Breternitz Slothower married to Wynn Slothower, Craig Breternitz and Ross Breternitz, all of which reside in Nevada. He had five grand children Andrew Woodfin who resides in Minnesota, Christine Breternitz Rich married to Caleb Rich who reside in Delaware, Evan Slothower, Charlotte Slothower, Kadan Breternitz which reside in Nevada. He was also blessed with three great grand children Melody Woodfin and Kadence Woodfin which reside in Minnesota and Talon Rich who resides in Delaware.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2020 at 2:00 pm.m at the Southern Neveda Veternans Memorial Center, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr. Boulder City, NV 89005, where family and friends will gather and Bob will receive "Military Honors."
