Cynthia Palencia Magno

Cynthia Palencia Magno, beloved mother and loving partner, passed away in Henderson, Nevada at the age of 81 on December 26, 2022. Cynthia was the 4th of 5 children of Paterno and Rosario Palencia and was born in Passi, Iloilo in the Philippines. She graduated from Centro Escolar University in Manila, earning her Doctor of Optometry degree and started her own clinic before marrying Roberto Magno in 1967. They settled and lived in New York City for several decades before retiring in Las Vegas, NV in 2004.


Cynthia was very active in the church and Filipino community. She was a longtime member and served as president for 4 years of Kahirup USA, a Filipino organization in New York dedicated to helping people in the Visayas region of the Philippines. Most recently, she was a member of the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) of Las Vegas. She was a dedicated fundraiser and enjoyed Christmas caroling with her BCBP brothers and sisters.


A woman with an unmatched spirit and passion, Cynthia lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel, eat good food and ballroom dance. Cynthia had a lot of style and elegance and lit up any room she was in. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family in her beautiful garden and also playing mahjong. Cynthia will always be an inspiration to many for her generous heart and unconditional love.


For Cynthia, family was most important and she was always grateful to God for her blessed life. She was predeceased by her husband, Roberto Magno and is survived by her two daughters, Rose and Vanessa, son-in-law Tom Kunkle, grandchildren Sophia and Jackson, and significant other Jackie Reese.


A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30am on March 3, 2023 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S Torrey Pines Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89118 with a funeral reception to follow.

Inurnment service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005 .
