Josephine Weatherspoon

May 18, 1918 — May 27, 2024

Ms. Josephine Weatherspoon passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 27th, 2024, at the young age of 106. Josephine, lovingly called Grandma JoJo on the Go Go by all who knew her, was born in Oberlin, OH on May 18th, 1918, to Joseph and Mary Quinn. While residing in Ohio, she attended primary school in Oberlin and later continued her education to become a licensed nurse. Grandma Jo met Alvin Scott, and from this union, six children were born (William, Larry , Charles, Robin, Rosilyn, and Everett). Although Grandma Jo remained in Ohio for many years, in the early 1970's she relocated to Nevada to be closer to her children and grandchildren. After moving to Nevada, she married Cecil Weatherspoon.

Grandma Jo was a phenomenal woman, and even though she was small stature (standing at just 5 feet, weighing 100lbs.), she was packed with a 9-foot personality and a ton of spunk. She never missed an opportunity to crack a joke or say something witty, all with a twinkle in her eye. Grandma Jo was an avid fisherman and loved to garden. She also loved a food garage sale, often driving out of her way in hopes of finding a treasure, for a really good price of course. She was a collector of items that she deemed beautiful, a lover of nature, and always spoke her mind. She loved to cook and was an excellent baker, making the best pies and cakes for her family and friends. Grandma Jo would tell you that anything in excess is not healthy, so she would have a shot or two of Brandy to settle in for the evening.

For most people, 106 years are just points in history. Grandma Jo lived to see many changes in our world. She lived to see both World War I and II, The Korean Conflict, Vietnam, the passing of the civil Rights Movement, the moon landing, the first African American president, the first female African American vice president, and the introduction of the World Wide Web. She also survived the Spanish Influenza  and the covid virus. To say "WOW" would  be an understatement  to describe all that she lived to see and do.

Those of us left behind to continue to celebrate Grandma Jo's memory will miss mostly her quick wit, her humor, and her knowledge of life. In addition to her parents and husband, Grandma Jo is preceded in death by her sons, William and Larry, grandson Daniel, great-grandson Tyrell, and all five of her brothers and sister. She is survived by her son and daughter, Charles and Robin, of Ohio; daughter Rosily (Clearance); son Everett; daughters-in-law Jennifer and Debbie, of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren (Ebony, Shawn, Billie, Dawn, Jason, Justin, Orlando, EJ, Casey, Tracy, and Robin); and numerous nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, extended family, as well as many, many friends, too numerous to list.
