Donald Earl Scholes, 74, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly Virginia, IL and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away Thursday,
April 8, 2021 at his residence. He was born July 29, 1946 in Jacksonville, IL, son of the late William (Bud)
Scholes and Hilma Carlson Scholes. Don and Rosa Nan Fisher Scholes were married almost 52 years, and
she survives.
In his early 20’s, Don was the owner/operator of Don’s Pocket Billiards in his hometown. After
graduating from Illinois State University, he moved his family to Ft. Myers, FL, where he taught at
Cypress Lake High School for 30 years. Upon retiring in 2004, his love of poker took him and Rosa Nan
to Las Vegas; he was often seen zipping around the neighborhood in his red golf cart.
Along with his beloved wife Rosa Nan, Don is survived by his darling daughters, Dona (husband Darrell)
Fortner of Las Vegas, NV and Sara (husband Kevin) Wright of Orlando, FL (and his two spoiled grandcats,
Oriole and Camden Yards.) He is also survived by his adored sister-in-law, Martha Fisher (husband
Howie) Thornley and nieces, Mariah Blakeman (husband Ryan) Landon and Alisa Blakeman (husband
Jack) Jokisch, and their children. Don will also be missed by numerous relatives and great friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the clubhouse in the Cabana Mobile Home
Community, Las Vegas, NV.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bridge of Life
(https://www.bridgeoflifeinternational.org ), which brings quality medical care and dialysis to
communities around the world through medical missions. Or, you may donate to a charity of your
choice in his name.
