In Loving Memory of Barbara Gene Kassler
1936-2025
Barbara Gene Kassler, a longtime resident of las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on May 27, 2025, at the age of 89.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia Gladden, and by her husband, Fred Kassler. She is survived by her children, Pamela (Richard Veater), Dan (Annie Ravetti), and her stepson Randy Chappell. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren—Ryan Veater, Kara Maria, Tyler Veater, and Nicholas and Jack Ravetti—and ten great-grandchildren: Paige and Weston Veater; Ella, Hudson, and Nora Maria; Avery, Liv, Vera, and Vyla Veater; and Lucas Ravetti.
Barbara was born in Roanoke, Virginia, where she spent her early childhood before relocating to Memphis, Tennessee. She attended Memphis Technical High School, where she was a member of the journalism club. As a only child, she was very independent. That same bold, adventurous spirit led her to secretly enroll and move—while her mother on a business trip—to attend junior college. There, she discovered a love for art and a natural talent that would remain a lifelong passion.
Barbara’s sense of adventure extended beyond academics. Her love for travel began shortly after college when she lived briefly in Germany. In 1958, she made a bold move west to Las Vegas, Nevada. While others saw only a harsh desert landscape, Barbara saw promise and beauty, saying, “The desert had a strength and beauty of its own.” She fell in love with the sunshine and made the Las Vegas Valley her home, where she raised her family and built a fulfilling life.
As true matriarch, Barbara cherished her family, her grandchildren, and had a soft spot for her many dogs. She loved chocolate, Dr. Pepper, and spending time boating with her family at Lake Mead and later with Fred in Florida. One of her fondest adventures was traveling up the East Coast with Fred in 1986 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
Barbara’s love for people made her a natural in real estate. She became a successful Realtor-Broker, co-founding the development company Bates and Springer with Fred. Many of their residential and commercial projects are still stand throughout the Las Vegas Valley today. She later owned and operated Nevada Associates and continued working in real estate well into her 70s.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barbara was sealed to Fred for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple.
Barbara will be remembered for her faith, strength and the love she had for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the lasting mark she left on the place she called home.
