Alan DeWeese

September 28, 1934 — July 5, 2025

Alan Gene DeWeese was born in Kingman, KS on September 28, 1934. Before he and his little sister Joan were school aged, his parents Brentwood and Pauline DeWeese relocated to the San Diego, CA area where Alan grew up. Alan joined the United States Navy during the Korean War and served on the USS Essex in theater as an Aviation Ordinance-man. After the Navy, Alan became a San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy. He married Margaret McDermott Wilson on August 11, 1956. Alan was recruited into the CIA security services during the Vietnam War. We know little about his time in Vietnam because Alan took his service to the country seriously. We know he was at the US Embassy during the Tet Offensive, but he carried his history of serving in Vietnam to his grave, holding national secrets as a patriotic American should.

Alan and Margaret are survived by 6 children, in birth order: Joanie Williams, Katherine Ruiz, Gregory DeWeese, Paula Walkden, Carol Knight, and Chris DeWeese. They also raised two grandchildren as their own: Kira Johnson and Matthew DeWeese. They are survived by 17 Grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Alan was a faithful husband and believed in the Lord. He and Margaret, his wife of over 65 years, were separated only by her death on August 5, 2022. He was a devout Roman Catholic, attaining third level in the Knights of Columbus. During this time, he accomplished a 100-mile bike ride to raise money for charities. Alan was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, with membership in St. Anne’s Catholic church of the same city prior to that. He was a generous man to his core, donating in excess of 30 gallons of blood in his lifetime and giving to family and charity beyond his means for most of his adult life.

Alan and Margaret made Las Vegas, Nevada their home after his time in Vietnam. They moved there about 1972. Alan relocated in 2022 to be close to his son, Chris, in Kansas City, Missouri for the later years of his life. Alan will be buried alongside his wife, Margaret, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on August 1, 2025. May they rest in peace until the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Alan’s funeral will be at 10 AM on August 1, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church. At noon on the same day, he will be buried at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. Those who knew him are welcome to come pay their respects at either service.
